Located just 25 miles northwest of downtown Columbia, South Carolina and past Lexington, Gilbert/Batesburg-Leesville is a small town with a less crowded feel.
Homes in Gilbert and Batesburg-Leesville are typically older and more established with large lots and lake frontage and the town overall is a very homey and rural. Most of the homes on or near Lake Murray are not in neighborhoods but more so known by areas or streets. Homes range from small lake cabins to large estates with pools. The area is much more spread out than the towns closer to downtown Columbia with plenty of land still available. Gilbert and Batesburg-Leesville have minimal shopping with the necessities near by like grocery stores, chain restaurants and local spots sprinkled in-between. Lexington is nearby with access to tons of shopping and restaurants. The population of both towns is around 6,000.

For a good drink be sure to stop by Highway 378 Bar and Grill for outdoor seating or Mercer House Winery for some wine tasting.

For groceries, IGA, Wal-mart and the nearby Lowe’s Foods, Publix and Piggly Wiggly serve the areas.
PARKS + RECREATION
Gilbert and Batesburg-Leesville has a few public parks spread out over the area including Summit Creek Park and Playground, Hollow Creek, and Gilbert Community Park. Gilbert-Summit Sports Complex is popular for baseball, tennis, football, soccer and more. The area is also home to Camp Barstow, Larry King Boat Landing and an SCEG Boat Landing.
Every year on July 4th the Lexington County Peach Festival is held in Gilbert at the Gilbert Community Park with live entertainment, the peachy and patriotic parade, over 100 Art & Craft Exhibits, antique car show, tractor show, children’s rides, and many food items specializing in “Peachy” delights.
