
America’s Boating Course (ABC3) by ABC of Lake Murray
America’s Boating Club of Lake Murray will offer America’s Boating Course (ABC3) in March and May free of cost to students who borrow instead of buy an instruction manual. The 287-page, full–color manual will be available to purchase for $35.
The course will be offered in two Saturday sessions from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each on March 4 and 11; then again on May 6 and 13. It will be held at Flotilla Island on Lake Murray, which is located at the end of Johnson Marina Road between Ballentine and Chapin. The address is 2390 Johnson Marina Road, Chapin, S.C.

The course is open to the public and covers all types of boats and boating on inland and coastal waters. The instructional material is produced by the United States Power Squadrons® and is presented by members of America’s Boating Club of Lake Murray who are certified instructors meeting the requirements of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.
America’s Boating Course provides students with all the information required by federal and state boating laws and regulations. Completion of the course meets educational requirements for boat operation in all states and qualifies youths under the age of 16 to operate watercraft of more than 15 horsepower without adult supervision. Course graduates also may qualify for discounts on boat insurance.
Topics covered include types of boats, required safety equipment, Navigational Rules of the Road, aids to navigation, boat registration, safety procedures, finding your way, electronic navigation, anchoring, adverse conditions, communications afloat, and knots and lines. For details, click here.
