Fishing Lake Murray for Largemouth Bass: Good. The bass fishing has improved over the last week and some outstanding days are being reported. The first place stringer in a recent club tournament was 21.52 pounds, and bass have entered the pre-spawn period and seem to be moving to the banks. Fishermen are catching bass around shallow structure including trees, brush and docks fishing crankbaits and soft plastics. There are isolated reports of some early spawning bass also being caught in warmer areas.

Fishing Lake Murray for Striped Bass: Very good. Striped bass fishing is really starting to improve. Lots of 5-10 pound fish are being caught as well as plenty of “teenagers,” and fish are spread out all over the lake. Best catches are coming with planer boards and free lines, although there is some cut bait and down rod action as well. In the recent Midlands Striper Club Lake Murray fishing tournament Team Buckwell (Louis and Lorraine) landed a three fish limit weighing 39 lbs, 7 oz. which featured a big fishing weighing 26lbs 14ozs. Other twenty plus pound fish were also caught over the weekend.

Lake Murray fishing for Crappie: Very good. The crappie bite continues to improve and fishermen are taking good catches of crappie, including some really nice sized fish. Fish 4 to 15 feet of water around brush, particularly near the mouths of creek channels. Crappie will continue to move shallower and enter the prespawn period.

Lake Murray fishing for Shellcracker: Good to very good. Some anglers report outstanding catches in very shallow water – as shallow as two to four feet. Free line segments of nightcrawlers and look for warm Lake Murray water temperatures hitting the low to mid sixties in the late afternoon.
